Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
